Hadrat Jabir (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stayed in Makkah for seven years, following people to their dwellings at 'Ukaz, Majannah, and the seasonal fairs at Mina, saying: "Who will shelter me and support me until I convey the messages of my Lord?" A man would come from Yemen or from Egypt and his people would come to him saying: "Beware of the young man of Quraysh lest he tempt you." He would walk among their encampments while they pointed at him with their fingers — until Allah sent us from Yathrib. We gave him shelter and believed in him. A man among us would go out, believe in him, and he would teach him the Quran. Then he would return to his family and they would accept Islam because of his Islam — until there was not a single dwelling of the Ansar without a group of Muslims who openly practiced Islam. Then we gathered and said: "How long shall we leave the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) being driven through the mountains of Makkah in fear?" Seventy men from among us traveled to him and reached him during the season. We promised him the Pledge of 'Aqabah. We gathered there one by one and two by two until we were all assembled. We submitted: "O Messenger of Allah, upon what shall we give you our pledge?" He stated: "You pledge to me upon hearing and obeying in activity and laziness, spending in hardship and ease, commanding good and forbidding evil, and that you speak it without fearing in Allah's cause the blame of any blamer, and that you support me and protect me when I come to you from whatever you protect yourselves, your wives, and your children — and for you is Paradise." So we stood and pledged to him. As'ad ibn Zurarah took his hand — and he was among the youngest of them — and said: "Slowly, O people of Yathrib! We did not travel upon the backs of our camels except knowing that he is the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and taking him out today means confronting all the Arabs and the killing of your best ones and that swords will bite you. Either you endure that and your reward is with Allah, or you fear cowardice from yourselves — then make that clear, for that is more excusable for you." They said: "Step aside! By Allah, we will never abandon this pledge." So we stood and pledged to him, and he took our covenant and stipulated that he would give us Paradise in return.

حضرت جابر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم مکہ میں سات سال رہے، عکاظ، مجنہ اور منیٰ کے موسمی میلوں میں لوگوں کے ٹھکانوں پر جا جا کر فرماتے: "کون ہے جو مجھے پناہ دے اور میری مدد کرے تاکہ میں اپنے رب کے پیغامات پہنچاؤں؟" یہاں تک کہ کوئی یمن یا مصر سے آتا تو اس کی قوم آ کر کہتی: "قریش کے اس نوجوان سے بچو کہیں تمہیں فتنے میں نہ ڈال دے۔" آپ ان کے خیموں کے درمیان چلتے اور وہ انگلیوں سے اشارہ کرتے — یہاں تک کہ اللہ نے ہمیں یثرب سے بھیجا۔ ہم نے آپ کو پناہ دی اور آپ کی تصدیق کی۔ ہم میں سے آدمی جاتا، ایمان لاتا، آپ اسے قرآن سکھاتے۔ پھر وہ اپنے گھر والوں کے پاس لوٹتا اور وہ اس کے اسلام سے مسلمان ہو جاتے — یہاں تک کہ انصار کا کوئی گھر نہ رہا مگر اس میں مسلمانوں کی جماعت تھی جو کھلم کھلا اسلام ظاہر کرتے۔ پھر ہم نے جمع ہو کر کہا: کب تک ہم نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو مکہ کے پہاڑوں میں خوفزدہ حالت میں بھگایا جاتا چھوڑیں؟ ہم میں سے ستر آدمی آپ کی طرف نکلے اور موسم حج میں آپ تک پہنچے۔ ہم نے آپ سے بیعت عقبہ کا وعدہ کیا۔ ایک ایک اور دو دو کر کے جمع ہوئے۔ عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ہم آپ سے کس بات پر بیعت کریں؟ ارشاد فرمایا: "بیعت کرو سننے اور ماننے پر چستی اور سستی میں، خرچ کرنے پر تنگی اور آسانی میں، نیکی کا حکم دینے اور برائی سے روکنے پر، اللہ کے راستے میں کسی ملامت کرنے والے کی ملامت کی پرواہ نہ کرنے پر، اور اس پر کہ جب میں تمہارے پاس آؤں تو میری مدد اور حفاظت کرو جیسے تم اپنی، اپنی بیویوں اور اپنے بچوں کی حفاظت کرتے ہو — اور تمہارے لیے جنت ہے۔" ہم کھڑے ہوئے اور بیعت کی۔ اسعد بن زرارہ نے آپ کا ہاتھ پکڑا — اور وہ سب سے چھوٹوں میں سے تھے — اور کہا: ٹھہرو اے اہل یثرب! ہم نے اونٹوں کی پیٹھ نہیں تھپتھپائی مگر ہم جانتے ہیں کہ یہ اللہ کے رسول ہیں اور آج ان کو نکالنا سب عربوں سے دشمنی اور تمہارے بہترین لوگوں کا قتل اور تلواروں کا تمہیں کاٹنا ہے۔ یا تو اس پر صبر کرو اور تمہارا اجر اللہ پر ہے، یا تم اپنے آپ میں بزدلی محسوس کرتے ہو تو بتا دو یہ تمہارے لیے زیادہ قابل عذر ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا: ہٹ جاؤ! اللہ کی قسم ہم یہ بیعت کبھی نہیں چھوڑیں گے۔ ہم کھڑے ہوئے اور بیعت کی اور آپ نے ہم سے عہد لیا اور شرط رکھی کہ اس کے بدلے ہمیں جنت عطا فرمائیں گے۔
