Adiyy ibn Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "When the verse was revealed: '...until the white thread becomes distinct from the black thread' (al-Baqarah: 187), I took a black rope and a white rope and placed them under my pillow. During the night, I kept looking at them but could not distinguish between them. In the morning, I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and mentioned this. He said: 'That (black thread) is the darkness of the night and (the white thread is) the whiteness of dawn.'"
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا عدی بن حاتم رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہجب آیت:”یہاں تک کہ سفید دھاری سے تمہارے لیے واضح ہو جائے۔“(سورۃ البقرہ: 187) نازل ہوئی تو میں نے ایک سیاہ رسی اور ایک سفید رسی لے لی اور ان دونوں کو اپنے تکیہ کے نیچے رکھ لیا اور رات کو (اٹھ اٹھ کر ان کو) دیکھتا رہا مگر مجھے کچھ معلوم نہ ہوا تو صبح کو میں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس گیا اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے اس کا ذکر کیا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”وہ (سیاہ دھاگا) تو رات کی سیاہی اور (سفید دھاگا) صبح کی سفیدی ہے۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 934]
