Also narrated from Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked, "Why do you not appoint someone as your successor after you?" He said, "If I appoint a successor, then one better than me who came before me appointed a successor (namely) Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him); and if I do not appoint one, then one better than me who came before me, namely the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), did not appoint a successor."
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما ہی سے روایت ہے، کہتے ہیں کہسیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا گیا کہ آپ اپنے بعد کسی کو خلیفہ کیوں نامزد نہیں کرتے؟ تو انھوں نے کہا کہ اگر میں خلیفہ بناؤں تو مجھ سے پہلے جو مجھ سے بہتر تھے انھوں نے خلیفہ بنایا ہے (یعنی) سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ نے اور اگر میں نہ بناؤں تو مجھ سے پہلے جو بہتر تھے یعنی رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم، انھوں نے خلیفہ نہیں بنایا۔[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 2208]
