It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said, "I divorced my wife in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) while she was menstruating. (My father) Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about this, so he (peace be upon him) said, 'Order him to take her back, then let him retain her until she becomes pure. Then when she menstruates again and becomes pure, at that time he may retain her if he wishes, or divorce her before intercourse if he wishes. This is the (proper) time of the waiting period regarding which Allah has said, "Women should be divorced at that time."'"
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہمیں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے دور میں اپنی بیوی کو طلاق دے دی جبکہ وہ حائضہ تھی۔ (میرے والد) سیدنا عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے یہ دریافت کیا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”اسے حکم کرو کہ اس سے رجوع کر لے پھر اسے پاک ہونے تک روکے رہے پھر جب اسے ایام حیض آئیں اور پاک ہو جائے اس وقت چاہے اسے روکے اور چاہے تو اس سے ہمبستری سے پہلے طلاق دیدے، یہ ہے وقت عدت جس کے متعلق اللہ نے فرمایا ہے:”عورتوں کو اس وقت طلاق دی جائے۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1872]
