The Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) sent Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) a proposal for my marriage. Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "But I am your brother." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "You are my brother in the religion of Allah and His Book, and she (Aisha) is lawful for me."

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہنبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ کو میرے نکاح کا پیغام بھیجا تو سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ نے عرض کی میں تو آپ کا بھائی ہوں۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”تو میرا بھائی اللہ کے دین اور اس کی کتاب کی رو سے ہے اور وہ (عائشہ) میرے لیے حلال ہے۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1832]
