Narrated Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace be upon him): He (peace be upon him) said, "The believer who recites the Qur'an and acts upon it is like a citron, whose taste is good and whose fragrance is also good; and the Muslim who does not recite the Qur'an but (yet) acts (righteously) is like a date, whose taste is good but which has no fragrance; and the likeness of the hypocrite who recites the Qur'an is like fragrant basil (chamomile), whose fragrance is good but whose taste is bitter; and the likeness of the hypocrite who does not recite the Qur'an is the colocynth fruit, whose taste is bitter and it is also bad, and whose smell too is foul."
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا ابوموسیٰ رضی اللہ عنہ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے روایت کرتے ہیں کہآپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:“جو مومن قرآن پڑھتا ہے اور اس پر عمل کرتا ہے اس کی مثال ترنج کی سی ہے کہ اس کا مزا بھی اچھا ہے اور خوشبو بھی اچھی اور جو مسلمان قرآن نہیں پڑھتا اور (لیکن) عمل کرتا ہے وہ کھجور کی طرح ہے کہ اس کا مزا تو اچھا ہے لیکن خوشبو کچھ نہیں اور اس منافق کی مثال جو قرآن پڑھتا ہے تو خوشبودار گل ببونہ کی سی ہے کہ اس کی خوشبو تو اچھی ہے مگر مزا کڑوا ہے اور اس منافق کی مثال جو قرآن نہیں پڑھتا اندرائن کا پھل ہے کہ جس کا مزا بھی کڑوا ہے اور برا بھی اور خوشبو بھی خراب ہے۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1826]
