It is narrated from Hadrat Abu Wa'il (upon him be mercy) that we were encamped at Siffin when Hadrat Sahl bin Hunaif (may Allah be well pleased with him) stood up and said: O people! Blame yourselves! We were with the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) on the day of Hudaibiyah — if we had seen an opportunity to fight, we would have fought. Hadrat ' Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be well pleased with him) came and submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Are we not upon the truth and they upon falsehood? The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: Indeed. He submitted: Are not our slain in Paradise and theirs in the Fire? He declared: Indeed. He submitted: Then why should we accept humiliation in our religion? Shall we return while Allah has not yet judged between us and them? The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: O son of al-Khattab! I am the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and Allah shall never forsake me. Hadrat 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) then went to Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be well pleased with him) and put the same questions to him. Hadrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: He is the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and Allah shall never forsake him. Then Surah al-Fath was revealed, and the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) recited it to Hadrat 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) to its end. Hadrat 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Is this then the victory? He declared: Yes!
الترجمة الأردية
حضرت ابووائل رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ سے روایت ہے کہ ہم صفین میں ڈیرے ڈالے ہوئے تھے۔ حضرت سہل بن حنیف رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کھڑے ہوئے اور فرمایا: لوگو! اپنے آپ کو ملامت کرو! ہم حدیبیہ کے دن رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ تھے، اگر ہمیں لڑنے کا موقع ملتا تو ضرور لڑتے۔ حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ تشریف لائے اور عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! کیا ہم حق پر اور وہ باطل پر نہیں ہیں؟ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: کیوں نہیں۔ عرض کیا: کیا ہمارے مقتول جنت میں اور ان کے مقتول دوزخ میں نہیں ہیں؟ ارشاد فرمایا: کیوں نہیں۔ عرض کیا: پھر ہم اپنے دین کے معاملے میں ذلت کیوں قبول کریں؟ کیا ہم واپس لوٹ جائیں جبکہ ابھی اللہ نے ہمارے اور ان کے درمیان فیصلہ نہیں کیا؟ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اے ابنِ خطاب! میں اللہ کا رسول ہوں اور اللہ مجھے کبھی ضائع نہیں کرے گا۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے پاس گئے اور ان سے بھی وہی سوالات کیے جو نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے کیے تھے۔ حضرت ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: آپ اللہ کے رسول ہیں اور اللہ انہیں کبھی ضائع نہیں کرے گا۔ پھر سورۃ الفتح نازل ہوئی اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کو آخر تک پڑھ کر سنائی۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! کیا یہی فتح ہے؟ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ہاں!
