Abu Hadrat Abdullah (Imam al-Bukhari, may Allah have mercy upon him) said: al-Layth narrated to us, from Ja'far bin Rabi'ah, from Hadrat Abdur Rahman bin Hurmuz, from Hadrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be well pleased with him), who said: The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) mentioned a man from the Children of Israel who asked another Israelite to lend him a thousand dinars. The lender said: Bring me witnesses to testify. The borrower said: Allah is sufficient as a witness. The lender said: Then bring me a guarantor. The borrower said: Allah is sufficient as a guarantor. The lender said: You have spoken the truth. So he lent him the money for a fixed term. The man took the loan and set out on a sea voyage. After fulfilling his need, he searched for a vessel to return by the appointed time but could not find one. So he took a piece of wood, hollowed it out, placed the thousand dinars and a letter inside, sealed the opening, and brought it to the seashore. He supplicated: O Allah! You know that I borrowed a thousand dinars from such-and-such person. He asked for a guarantor and I said Allah is sufficient as a guarantor, and he was content with You. He asked for a witness and I said Allah is sufficient as a witness, and he was content with You. I have striven to find a vessel to send him his money but could not succeed. So I entrust this to You. He cast the piece of wood into the sea and it went far in. Then he returned and continued searching for a vessel to his country. Meanwhile, the lender went out hoping a ship might have arrived with his money. He found the piece of wood containing the money and took it home as firewood. When he sawed it open, he found the dinars and the letter inside. After some time, the borrower arrived with a thousand dinars and said: By Allah! I kept searching for a vessel to bring you your money on time but could not find one before this one. The lender asked: Did you send me anything? The borrower said: I am telling you that I found no vessel before this one. The lender said: Allah the Exalted has fulfilled your payment on your behalf through what you sent in the piece of wood. So take your thousand dinars back and depart in happiness.
الترجمة الأردية
ابوعبداللہ (امام بخاری رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ) نے فرمایا کہ لیث نے بیان کیا، ان سے جعفر بن ربیعہ نے، ان سے عبدالرحمٰن بن ہرمز نے اور ان سے حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے بنی اسرائیل کے ایک شخص کا ذکر فرمایا جس نے بنی اسرائیل کے ایک دوسرے شخص سے ایک ہزار دینار قرض مانگے۔ اس نے کہا: ایسے گواہ لاؤ جن کی گواہی پر مجھے اعتبار ہو۔ قرض مانگنے والے نے کہا: گواہ تو اللہ ہی کافی ہے۔ اس نے کہا: کوئی ضامن لاؤ۔ قرض مانگنے والے نے کہا: ضامن بھی اللہ ہی کافی ہے۔ اس نے کہا: تو نے سچ کہا۔ چنانچہ اس نے ایک مقررہ مدت کے لیے قرض دے دیا۔ وہ شخص قرض لے کر سمندری سفر پر روانہ ہوا اور اپنی ضرورت پوری کر کے کوئی سواری (کشتی وغیرہ) تلاش کرنے لگا تاکہ مقررہ مدت میں واپس پہنچ سکے، مگر کوئی نہ ملی۔ آخر ایک لکڑی لی، اس میں سوراخ کیا، ایک ہزار دینار اور ایک خط اس میں رکھ کر سوراخ بند کر دیا۔ پھر اسے سمندر کے کنارے لایا اور عرض کیا: اے اللہ! تو جانتا ہے کہ میں نے فلاں سے ایک ہزار دینار قرض لیے۔ اس نے ضامن مانگا تو میں نے کہا: اللہ ضامن کافی ہے، اور اس نے تجھ پر رضامندی ظاہر کی۔ اس نے گواہ مانگا تو میں نے کہا: اللہ گواہ کافی ہے، اور اس نے تجھ پر رضامندی ظاہر کی۔ اور میں نے بہت کوشش کی کہ کوئی سواری ملے جس سے اس کا قرض اسے پہنچا سکوں مگر کامیاب نہ ہوا۔ لہٰذا اب میں یہ امانت تیرے سپرد کرتا ہوں۔ اس نے لکڑی سمندر میں ڈال دی اور وہ اس میں سماتی چلی گئی۔ پھر وہ شخص واپس لوٹا اور اپنے شہر جانے کے لیے کشتی تلاش کرتا رہا۔ ادھر قرض دینے والا باہر آیا کہ شاید کوئی کشتی اس کا مال لے کر آئی ہو۔ تو اچانک اسے وہ لکڑی ملی جس میں مال تھا۔ اس نے اسے ایندھن کے طور پر گھر لے گیا۔ جب اسے چیرا تو اندر سے دینار اور خط نکلا۔ پھر کچھ عرصے بعد مقروض بھی ایک ہزار دینار لے کر آیا اور بولا: اللہ کی قسم! مسلسل سواری تلاش کرتا رہا تاکہ تمہارا مال وقت پر پہنچا سکوں مگر آج سے پہلے کوئی نہ ملی۔ قرض خواہ نے پوچھا: کیا تم نے مجھے کوئی چیز بھیجی تھی؟ مقروض نے کہا: میں تو بتا رہا ہوں کہ آج سے پہلے مجھے کوئی سواری نہ ملی۔ قرض خواہ نے فرمایا: اللہ تعالیٰ نے تمہاری طرف سے وہ رقم ادا کر دی جو تم نے لکڑی میں بھیجی تھی۔ لہٰذا اپنے ایک ہزار دینار لے کر خوشی سے واپس جاؤ۔
