Ziyad ibn Yahya Abu al-Khattab narrated to us saying: Abdullah ibn Maymun al-Makki narrated to us saying: Ubaydullah ibn Umar narrated to us from Nafi from Ibn Umar who said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came out to us holding something in his hand. He opened his right hand and stated: «In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Compassionate. A book from the Most Merciful, the Compassionate, containing the people of Paradise with their numbers, their names, and their lineages - sealed for them until the Day of Resurrection. Not one of them will be decreased, nor will one be added to them. The fortunate one may walk the path of the wretched until it is said: 'He is one of them, how he resembles them!' Then he returns to his felicity before his death, even if it be in the time of a she-camel's pause.» Then he opened his left hand and stated: «In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Compassionate. A book from the Most Merciful, the Compassionate, containing the people of the Fire with their numbers, their names, and their lineages - sealed for them until the Day of Resurrection. Not one of them will be decreased, nor will one be added to them. The wretched one may walk the path of the felicitous until it is said: 'He is one of them, how he resembles them!' Then his wretchedness overtakes him before his death, even if it be in the time of a she-camel's pause.» Then the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated three times: «Deeds are by their endings, deeds are by their endings.» This hadith - we do not know of anyone who narrated it from Ubaydullah except Ibn Maymun al-Makki, and he is upright.
