حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ قَالَا أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْفُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ أَقْرَبُهُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَسِيلَةً وَأَبُو إِسْحَاقَ لَمْ يُحَدِّثْ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ إِلَّا هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ

Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna and Isma'il ibn Hafs narrated to us, they said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far informed us, he said: Shu'bah informed us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-A'mash, from Abu Wa'il, from Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Do not be imitators, saying: If people do good, we will do good; and if they do wrong, we will do wrong.'
