أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرٌو قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي خُبَيْبٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ مَسْعُودِ بْنِ نِيَارٍ قَالَ جَاءَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا خَرَصْتُمْ فَخُذُوا وَدَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَدْعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَدَعُوا الرُّبُعَ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا رَوَاهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا سَهْلُ بْنُ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ يَرْوِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ سَهْلٍ إِلَّا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ نِيَارٍ وَهُوَ مَعْرُوفٌ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ إِلَّا شُعْبَةُ

Amr informed us, he said: Abu Dawud informed us, he said: Shu'bah informed us, he said: Khubayb - meaning Ibn 'Abd al-Rahman - informed me, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mas'ud ibn Niyar say: Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah came to us and said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you estimate (the harvest of date palms), take (the zakat) and leave a third. If you do not leave a third, then leave a quarter.' Abu Bakr said: We do not know anyone who narrated this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) except Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah, and we do not know anyone who narrates this hadith from Sahl except 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Niyar, who is well-known, and we do not know anyone who narrated it except Shu'bah.
