Abu al-Hasan 'Ali ibn Ahmad ibn 'Abdan informed us... from 'Abdullah ibn Raja'... from Isra'il, from Abu Ishaq, from Sulaym ibn 'Ubayd al-Sululi who said: 'I was with Sa'id ibn al-'As in Tabaristan, and with him were a group of the Prophet's companions. Sa'id said to them: Which of you witnessed the prayer of fear with the Messenger of Allah? Hudhayfah said: I did. Order your companions to stand in two groups: one facing the enemy and one behind you. You say the takbir and they all say it. You bow and they all bow. You raise your head and they all raise. Then you prostrate, and the group behind you prostrates while the other group stands facing the enemy. When you raise your head from prostration, the others then prostrate. Then in the second rak'ah, you bow and they all bow. You raise your head and they all raise. Then you prostrate, and the group behind you prostrates while the other group stands. Then the two groups swap positions. Then you bow and they all bow. Then you prostrate, and the group behind you prostrates while the other group stands. When you raise your head, the others prostrate. Then you give the salam, and tell your companions that if any attack happens, they are permitted to fight and speak.'
