أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَصَمُّ أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ قَالَ قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ حِكَايَةً عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ هُوَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ إِذَا أَدْرَكْتَ رَكْعَةً مِنَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَأَضِفْ إِلَيْهَا أُخْرَى فَإِذَا فَاتَكَ الرُّكُوعُ فَصَلِّ أَرْبَعًا

Abu Ahmad al-Mihrajani informed us... from Malik, from Ibn Shihab, from al-Sa'ib ibn Yazid who said: 'The first adhan on Friday used to be when the imam sat on the pulpit, during the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Abu Bakr, and 'Umar. But when 'Uthman's time came and the people had become numerous, he added the third adhan at al-Zawra.'
