Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us: Muhammad ibn Bakr reported to us: Abu Dawud narrated to us: Harun ibn Abdullah narrated to us: al-Fadl ibn Dukayn narrated to us: Uqbah ibn Wahb ibn Uqbah al-Amiri narrated to us; he said: I heard my father narrate from al-Fujay al-Amiri (may Allah be pleased with him), that he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "What is permissible for us of carrion?" He said: "What is your food?" We said: "We take an evening drink and a morning drink." Abu Nu'aym said: Uqbah explained it to me as a bowl in the morning and a bowl in the evening. He [the Prophet] said: "That, by my father, is [still] hunger." So he permitted them carrion in this state. Abu Dawud said: al-ghabuq is [the drink] at the end of the day. Someone other than him narrated it from Abu Nu'aym and said: "That is the abode of hunger (dar al-ju')." In this [report] he permitted them to consume carrion together with consuming what preserves the last breath of life and sustains the self, morning and evening, when the two [drinks] neither nourish the body nor bring complete satiety. And Allah knows best. There is [some] doubt in the establishment of these hadiths, and the hadith of Jabir ibn Samurah is the most correct of them.
