أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ السُّكَّرِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أنبأ مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا اسْمُكَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ حَزْنٌ قَالَ بَلْ أَنْتَ سَهْلٌ قَالَ لَا أُغَيِّرُ اسْمًا سَمَّانِيهِ أَبِي قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ فَفِينَا تِلْكَ الْحُزُونَةُ بَعْدُ

Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Yahya ibn Abd al-Jabbar al-Sukkari in Baghdad informed us > Isma'il ibn Muhammad al-Saffar > Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Ramadi > Abd al-Razzaq > Ma'mar > al-Zuhri > Ibn al-Musayyib > his father > his grandfather said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to me: 'What is your name?' I said: Hazn (rough). He said: 'Rather, you are Sahl (easy).' He said: 'I will not change a name my father gave me.' Ibn al-Musayyib said: 'So roughness remained among us after that.'
