أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ الْعَدْلُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الرَّزَّازُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ثنا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ حَدَّثَنِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ الْأَزْدِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ حُبْشِيٍّ ؓ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سُئِلَ أِيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ إِيمَانٌ لَا شَكَّ فِيهِ وَجِهَادٌ لَا غُلُولَ فِيهِ وَحَجَّةٌ مَبْرُورَةٌ قِيلَ أِيُّ الصَّلَاةِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ طُولُ الْقِيَامِ قِيلَ فَأِيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ جَهْ��ٌ مِنْ مُقِلٍّ قِيلَ فَأِيُّ الْهِجْرَةِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ مَنْ هَجَرَ مَا حُرِّمَ عَلَيْهِ قِيلَ فَأِيُّ الْجِهَادِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ مَنْ جَاهَدَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ بِمَالِهِ وَنَفْسِهِ قِيلَ فَأِيُّ الْقَتْلِ أَشْرَفُ؟ قَالَ مَنْ أُهَرِيقَ دَمُهُ وَعُقِرَ جَوَادُهُ

Abu al-Husayn ibn Bishran informed us in Baghdad, from Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Amr al-Razzaz, from Ahmad ibn al-Walid, from Hajjaj, from Ibn Jurayj, from Uthman ibn Abi Sulayman, from Ali al-Azdi, from Ubayd ibn Umayr, from Abdullah ibn Hubshi (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked: Which deeds are the best? He said: Faith with no doubt in it, and jihad with no fraud in it, and an accepted Hajj. He was asked: Which prayer is the best? He said: Standing long in prayer. He was asked: Which charity is the best? He said: The effort of one who has little. He was asked: Which migration is the best? He said: Abandoning what Allah has forbidden. He was asked: Which jihad is the best? He said: One who strives against the polytheists with his wealth and his life. He was asked: Which killing is the most honorable? He said: One whose blood is shed and whose horse is hamstrung.
