Ali bin Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Bishran informed us in Baghdad... from Anas or someone else, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sought permission to enter upon Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah. Sa'd said: And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah, but did not let the Prophet (peace be upon him) hear. He did this three times, and Sa'd responded three times without letting him hear. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) turned back. Sa'd followed him and said: O Messenger of Allah, by my father, every time you greeted I heard it, and I responded to you without making you hear, because I wanted to get as much of your greeting and blessing as possible. Then they entered the house and he offered him raisins. The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) ate, and when he finished he said: May the righteous eat your food, may the angels send blessings upon you, and may those who are fasting break their fast with you. And Ja'far bin Sulaiman narrated it from Thabit from Anas without doubt, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to visit the Ansar, and he mentioned a story about entering upon Sa'd bin Ubadah with a similar meaning.
