أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْبَزَّازُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَاكِهِيُّ ثنا أَبُو يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي مَسَرَّةَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ قَزَعَةَ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ لَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ أُتِيَ بِي إِلَيْهِ فَقَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لِي تَعَلَّمْ كِتَابَ الْيَهُودِ؛ فَإِنِّي لَا آمَنُهُمْ عَلَى كِتَابِنَا قَالَ فَمَا مَرَّ بِي خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ حَتَّى تَعَلَّمْتُهُ فَكُنْتُ أَكْتُبُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَقْرَأُ كُتُبَهُمْ إِلَيْهِ

Abu al-Hasan Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Ishaq al-Bazzaz in Baghdad informed us: Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq al-Fakihi narrated to us: Abu Yahya ibn Abi Masarrah narrated to us: Yahya ibn Qaz'ah narrated to us: Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Zinad narrated from his father from Kharijah ibn Zayd from his father who said: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to Madinah, I was brought to him and I recited before him. He said to me: Learn the writing of the Jews, for I do not trust them with our correspondence. He said: Not fifteen days passed until I learned it. So I used to write for the Prophet (peace be upon him) and read their letters to him.
