حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْعَلَاءَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا يَسْتَامُ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى سَوْمِ أَخِيهِ وَلَا يَخْطُبُ عَلَى خِطْبَتِهِ.

Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'bah told us: I heard al-'Ala' narrate from his father, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "A man should not make a bid over the bid of his brother, nor propose marriage over the proposal of his brother."
