حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ وَحَجَّاجٌ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ عَنْ ذَكْوَانَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَحَدَنَا يُحَدِّثُ نَفْسَهُ بِالشَّيْءِ مَا يُحِبُّ أَنَّهُ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِهِ وَإِنَّ لَهُ مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ قَالَ ذَاكَ مَحْضُ الْإِيمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ بِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ مِنْ شَأْنِ الرَّبِّ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ مَرْثَدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الرَّبِيعِ وَكَانَ يُقَاعِدُ أَبَا بُرْدَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَرْبَعٌ فِي أُمَّتِي فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ.

Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Hajjaj told us: Shu'bah told us, from Asim ibn Bahdalah, from Dhakwan, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that they said: "O Messenger of God, one of us has thoughts occur to his mind that he would not want to speak even if he were given everything on earth." He said, "That is pure faith." Mu'awiyah told us: Za'idah told us, from Asim with his chain, who said: "It is part of the affair of the Lord, Mighty and Majestic." Bahz told us: Shu'bah told us: Alqamah ibn Marthad told me: I heard Abu al-Rabi' - who used to sit with Abu Burdah - narrate from Abu Hurairah, that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Four things are in my nation," and he mentioned the hadith similar to the hadith of Muhammad ibn Ja'far.
