حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيُّ مِنْ قَبِيلَةٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا قَارَةُ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ وَنَزَلَ الْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةَ بَلَدُ بَابِ مِصْرَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ الْإِسْكَنْدَرَانِيُّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ بُعِثْتُ فِي خَيْرِ قُرُونِ بَنِي آدَمَ قَرْنًا فَقَرْنًا حَتَّى كُنْتُ مِنْ الْقَرْنِ الَّذِي كُنْتُ فِيهِ.

Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, he said: Ya'qub ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Qari narrated to us - from a tribe called Qarah from the Ansar, and he settled in Alexandria, the city at the gate of Egypt, so he was called al-Iskandarani - from Amr ibn Abi Amr, from Sa'id al-Maqburi, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I was sent from the best generations of the children of Adam, generation after generation, until I was from the generation in which I was."
