حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْمَقْبَرَةِ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أَهْلِهَا قَالَ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ دَارَ قَوْمٍ مُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ بِكُمْ لَاحِقُونَ وَدِدْتُ أَنَّا قَدْ رَأَيْنَا إِخْوَانَنَا قَالُوا أَوَلَسْنَا إِخْوَانَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ بَلْ أَنْتُمْ أَصْحَابِي وَإِخْوَانِي الَّذِينَ لَمْ يَأْتُوا بَعْدُ وَأَنَا فَرَطُكُمْ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ قَالُوا وَكَيْفَ تَعْرِفُ مَنْ لَمْ يَأْتِ بَعْدُ مِنْ أُمَّتِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا لَهُ خَيْلٌ غُرٌّ مُحَجَّلَةٌ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَيْ خَيْلٍ دُهْمٍ بُهْمٍ أَلَا يَعْرِفُ خَيْلَهُ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَأْتُونَ غُرًّا مُحَجَّلِينَ مِنْ الْوُضُوءِ يَقُولُهَا ثَلَاثًا وَأَنَا فَرَطُكُمْ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ أَلَا لَيُذَادَنَّ رِجَالٌ عَنْ حَوْضِي كَمَا يُذَادُ الْبَعِيرُ الضَّالُّ أُنَادِيهِمْ أَلَا هَلُمَّ أَلَا هَلُمَّ فَيُقَالُ إِنَّهُمْ قَدْ بَدَّلُوا بَعْدَكَ فَأَقُولُ سُحْقًا سُحْقًا.

'Affan narrated to us, he said: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: al-'Ala' ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went out to the graveyard and greeted its inhabitants, saying: "Peace be upon you, abode of believing people. And we shall, if Allah wills, join you. I wish we had seen our brothers." They said: "Are we not your brothers, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Rather, you are my companions. My brothers are those who have not yet come. And I will be waiting for you at the Pool (Hawd)." They said: "How will you recognize those of your Ummah who have not yet come, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Do you not see that if a man had horses with white marks on their foreheads and legs among dark, plain horses, would he not recognize his horses?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "They will come with bright marks on their faces and limbs from ablution" - he said it three times - "and I will be waiting for you at the Pool. Men will be driven away from my Pool just as a stray camel is driven away. I will call to them: 'Come, come!' But it will be said: 'They changed after you.' So I will say: 'Away with them, away with them.'"
