The people made way around Abu Hurayrah, and Natil al-Shami said to him: 'O elder, narrate to us a hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).' He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: 'The first people to be judged on the Day of Resurrection will be three. A man who was martyred will be brought and made to recognize his blessings, which he will acknowledge. He will be asked: What did you do with them? He will say: I fought for Your sake until I was killed. He will be told: You have lied. Rather, you fought so that it would be said that you are brave, and it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face until he is cast into the Fire. And a man who learned knowledge, taught it, and recited the Quran will be brought and made to recognize his blessings, which he will acknowledge. He will be asked: What did you do with them? He will say: I learned knowledge for Your sake and taught it, and I recited the Quran for Your sake. He will be told: You have lied. Rather, you learned so that it would be said that you are a scholar, and it was said. And you recited the Quran so that it would be said that you are a reciter, and it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face until he is cast into the Fire. And a man whom Allah blessed with abundance and gave every kind of wealth will be brought and made to recognize his blessings, which he will acknowledge. He will be asked: What did you do with them? He will say: I did not leave any cause that You love spending in except that I spent in it for Your sake. He will be told: You have lied. Rather, you did it so that it would be said that you are generous, and it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face until he is cast into the Fire.'
