Yazid told us: al-Hajjaj ibn Artat informed us, from Ibrahim ibn Amir, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, and from al-Zuhri, from Humayd ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Hurayra, who said: While we were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, a man came pulling out his hair and crying woe upon himself. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him, "What is wrong with you?" He said, "I had intercourse with my wife in Ramadan [while fasting]." He said, "Free a slave." He said, "I cannot find one." He said, "Fast two consecutive months." He said, "I am not able." He said, "Feed sixty poor people." He said, "I cannot find [the means]." Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was brought a container holding fifteen sa' of dates. He said, "Take this and feed sixty poor people with it on your behalf." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, there is no household between the two lava plains [of Medina] poorer than us." He said, "Then eat it, you and your family." Yazid told us: al-Hajjaj informed us, from Ata, and from Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather, with something similar from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, adding a sacrificial camel. Amr said in his hadith: and he ordered him to fast one day in its place.
