حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ أَوْ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأُبَىُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ يَأْتِيَانِ النَّخْلَ الَّتِي فِيهَا ابْنُ صَيَّادٍ حَتَّى إِذَا دَخَلَا النَّخْلَ طَفِقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَّقِي بِجُذُوعِ النَّخْلِ وَهُوَ يَخْتِلُ ابْنَ صَيَّادٍ أَنْ يَسْمَعَ مِنْ ابْنِ صَيَّادٍ شَيْئًا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرَاهُ وَابْنُ صَيَّادٍ مُضْطَجِعٌ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فِي قَطِيفَةٍ لَهُ فِيهَا زَمْزَمَةٌ قَالَ فَرَأَتْ أُمُّهُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَتَّقِي بِجُذُوعِ النَّخْلِ فَقَالَتْ أَيْ صَافِ وَهُوَ اسْمُهُ هَذَا مُحَمَّدٌ فَثَارَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْ تَرَكَتْهُ بَيَّنَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ انْطَلَقَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ وَأُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ يَؤُمَّانِ النَّخْلَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ.

Abdur-Razzaq told us, from Ma'mar, from az-Zuhri, from Salim - or from more than one person - who said: Ibn Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out, with Ubayy ibn Ka'b, going to the palm grove in which Ibn Sayyad was. When they entered the palm grove, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to shield himself behind the trunks of the palm trees, trying to hear something from Ibn Sayyad stealthily before Ibn Sayyad would see him. Ibn Sayyad was lying on his bed under a cloak of his, murmuring in it. Then his mother saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) shielding himself behind the palm trunks, and she called out: O Saf - that being his name - this is Muhammad! So he jumped up. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Had she left him alone, he would have made things clear. Abu al-Yaman told us, Shu'ayb told us, from az-Zuhri: Salim ibn Abdullah informed me: I heard Abdullah ibn Umar saying: After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out, he and Ubayy ibn Ka'b, heading for the palm grove - and he mentioned the hadith.
