حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَتَشٍ أَخْبَرَنِي النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ سَلْمَانَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ صَنْعَاءَ قَالَ كُنَّا بِمَكَّةَ فَجَلَسْنَا إِلَى عَطَاءٍ الْخُرَاسَانِيِّ إِلَى جَنْبِ جِدَارِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَلَمْ نَسْأَلْهُ وَلَمْ يُحَدِّثْنَا قَالَ ثُمَّ جَلَسْنَا إِلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ مِثْلَ مَجْلِسِكُمْ هَذَا فَلَمْ نَسْأَلْهُ وَلَمْ يُحَدِّثْنَا قَالَ فَقَالَ مَا بَالُكُمْ لَا تَتَكَلَّمُونَ وَلَا تَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ قُولُوا اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ بِوَاحِدَةٍ عَشْرًا وَبِعَشْرٍ مِائَةً مَنْ زَادَ زَادَهُ اللَّهُ وَمَنْ سَكَتَ غَفَرَ لَهُ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَمْسٍ سَمِعْتُهُنَّ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ مَنْ حَالَتْ شَفَاعَتُهُ دُونَ حَدٍّ مِنْ حُدُودِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ مُضَادُّ اللَّهِ فِي أَمْرِهِ وَمَنْ أَعَانَ عَلَى خُصُومَةٍ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ فَهُوَ مُسْتَظِلٌّ فِي سَخَطِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يَتْرُكَ وَمَنْ قَفَا مُؤْمِنًا أَوْ مُؤْمِنَةً حَبَسَهُ اللَّهُ فِي رَدْغَةِ الْخَبَالِ عُصَارَةِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ وَمَنْ مَاتَ وَعَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ أُخِذَ لِصَاحِبِهِ مِنْ حَسَنَاتِهِ لَا دِينَارَ ثَمَّ وَلَا دِرْهَمَ وَرَكْعَتَا الْفَجْرِ حَافِظُوا عَلَيْهِمَا فَإِنَّهُمَا مِنْ الْفَضَائِلِ.

Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Atash told us: al-Nu'man ibn al-Zubayr informed me, from Ayyub ibn Salman, a man from the people of San'a, who said: We were in Makkah, and we sat with Ata' al-Khurasani beside the wall of the Mosque; we did not ask him anything, nor did he narrate anything to us. He said: Then we sat with Ibn Umar in a gathering like this gathering of yours; we did not ask him anything, nor did he narrate anything to us. He said: Then he said: What is the matter with you, that you do not speak nor remember Allah? Say: Allahu Akbar, and Al-hamdu lillah, and Subhan Allahi wa bihamdih - one of each ten times, and ten of them a hundred times; whoever adds, Allah adds for him, and whoever remains silent, He forgives him. Shall I not inform you of five things I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him? They said: Yes indeed. He said: Whoever's intercession stands in the way of one of the boundaries set by Allah is opposing Allah in His command. Whoever assists in a dispute without right remains under the shade of Allah's wrath until he desists. Whoever slanders a believing man or woman, Allah will detain him in the fetid discharge of the people of Hell, the exudate of the people of the Fire. Whoever dies while owing a debt, it will be taken from his good deeds for the sake of his creditor - there being no dinar there, nor dirham. And the two rak'ahs of dawn - hold fast to them, for they are among the excellent deeds.
