Yahya told us, from Ubaydullah: Nafi' informed me, from Ibn Umar, that he divorced his wife while she was menstruating, and Umar went to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and sought his ruling, and he said, "Order Abdullah to take her back until she becomes pure from this menstruation of hers, then she menstruates another period; then when she becomes pure, let him either divorce her before he has intercourse with her, or keep her, for that is the waiting period which women have been commanded to be divorced within."
