حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَبِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خِفْتَ الصُّبْحَ فَأَوْتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ.

Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Labid, from Abu Salama, from Ibn 'Umar: I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, being asked about the night prayer, and he said: "Two rak'ahs at a time; and when you fear the approach of dawn, pray witr with one."
