حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ وَعَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ مِنْ النَّارِ قَالَ فَابْتَدَرْنَاهُ فَإِذَا هُوَ صَاحِبُ مَاشِيَةٍ أَدْرَكَتْهُ الصَّلَاةُ فَنَادَى بِهَا.

Muhammad ibn Bishr told us, Sa'id told us, Qatadah and Abd al-Wahhab told us, from Ibn Abi Arubah, from Qatadah, from Abu al-Ahwas, from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, who said: "While we were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on one of his journeys, we heard a caller calling out: 'Allah is greatest, Allah is greatest.' The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Upon the natural disposition.' The caller said: 'I testify that there is no god but Allah.' The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'He has come out of the Fire.'" He said: "So we hurried to him, and found that he was a herdsman whom the time of prayer had overtaken, so he had called out for it."
