Rawh told us: Hammad told us, from Abdullah ibn Uthman ibn Khuthaym, from Abu al-Tufayl, who said: "I said to Ibn Abbas: 'Your people claim that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, walked briskly around the House and that it is Sunnah.' He said: 'They spoke the truth, and they lied.' I said: 'How did they speak the truth and lie?' He said: 'They spoke the truth - he did walk briskly around the House - but they lied in saying it is Sunnah. Quraysh had said: "Leave Muhammad and his companions during the time of al-Hudaybiyyah until they perish like worms." So when they made a treaty with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that they would come the following year and stay in Makkah three days, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived the following year while the polytheists were on the side of Qu'ayqi'an. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Walk briskly around the House for three circuits" - and it is not Sunnah.'" Yunus and Surayj told us, they said: Hammad told us, from Abu Asim al-Ghanawi, from Abu al-Tufayl, and he mentioned the hadith.
