Affan narrated to us: Hammam narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Juhadah narrated to us: al-Mughirah ibn Abdullah al-Yashkuri narrated to me, from his father, who said: I set out to Kufah to obtain some mules. He said: I came to the marketplace, but it had not yet opened. He said: I said to a companion of mine, "Why don't we go into the mosque" - its site at that time was among the date-sellers - and there was a man of Qays called Ibn al-Muntafiq saying, "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was described to me and his appearance, so I sought him out at Mina and was told he was at Arafat. So I made my way to him and pressed close to him, and it was said to me, 'Get away from the path of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,' but he said, 'Leave the man - what does he want?'" He said: I pressed on toward him until I got through to him. He said: I took hold of the halter of the Messenger of Allah's mount, peace and blessings be upon him - or he said, its rein - like this - so Muhammad narrated - until the necks of our two mounts crossed one another. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not restrain me - or he said, did not turn away from me - like this, so Muhammad narrated. He said: I said, "Two things I ask you about: what will save me from the Fire, and what will admit me into Paradise?" He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, looked up to the sky, then lowered his head, then turned his face toward me and said, "Though you have been brief in your question, you have asked a great and far-reaching thing - so pay heed to me now: worship Allah, associating nothing with Him; establish the prescribed prayer; give the obligatory zakat; fast Ramadan; and what you would love people to do for you, do for them, and what you dislike people doing to you, spare them from doing to you." Then he said, "Let go the path of the mount."
