He said: Abu Nu'aym al-Fadl ibn Dukayn told us: Zakariyya ibn Abi Za'idah told us, from al-Firas, from al-Sha'bi, from Masruq, from Aisha, who said: Fatimah came walking, her gait resembling the gait of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He said, "Welcome, my daughter," then seated her on his right or on his left. Then he whispered something to her and she wept. I said to her, "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, singled you out to tell you something in secret, and you weep?" Then he whispered something else to her and she laughed. I said, "I have never seen joy so close to sorrow as today." So I asked her about what he had said, but she said, "I would not disclose the secret of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." Then, when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed away, I asked her again, and she said: He confided in me and said: Jibril, peace be upon him, used to review the Qur'an with me once every year, but this year he reviewed it with me twice, and I do not think this is for any reason but that my appointed time has come, and you will be the first of my family to join me, and how excellent a predecessor I am for you! So I wept at that. Then he said: Are you not pleased to be the mistress of the women of this nation, or the women of the believers? She said: So I laughed at that.
