Ya'qub narrated to us: My father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Ya'qub ibn Utba narrated to me, from al-Zuhri, from Urwa, from Aisha, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, returned that day when he came in from the mosque and lay down in my lap. A man from the family of Abu Bakr entered upon me, with a green tooth-stick in his hand. She said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, looked at it in his hand with a look that made me realize he wanted it. She said: I said, "O Messenger of God, would you like me to give you this tooth-stick?" He said, "Yes." She said: So I took it and chewed it for him until I softened it, and gave it to him. She said: He used it as vigorously as I had ever seen him use a tooth-stick before, then set it down. And I found the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, growing heavy in my lap. She said: I went to look at his face, and his gaze had become fixed, and he was saying, "Rather, the Highest Companion, from Paradise." I said, "You were given the choice and you have chosen, by the One who sent you with the truth." She said: And the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, passed away.
