Safiyyah reported from Aisha that Asma asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the ritual bath for menstruation. He said, "One of you should take her water and lote-tree leaves and purify herself, performing the purification well, then pour water on her head and rub it vigorously until it reaches the roots of her hair, then pour water over herself, then take a piece of musk-scented cloth and purify herself with it." Asma said, "How do I purify myself with it?" He said, "Glory be to Allah - purify yourself with it!" Aisha said, as if he were concealing it discreetly, meaning she should use it to follow the trace of the blood. And she also asked him about the ritual bath after sexual impurity. He said, "Take your water and purify yourself, performing the purification well, or perfecting the purification, then pour it on your head and rub it until it reaches the roots of your hair, then pour water over yourself." Aisha said, "How excellent are the women of the Ansar! Shyness never prevented them from seeking understanding in religion."
