Affan told us: Sulaym ibn Akhdar told me: Ibn Awn told us: Ali ibn Zayd told me, from Umm Muhammad, his father's wife, from Aisha, who said: Umm Salama was with us, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came at nightfall. She said: I mentioned something he had done with his hand, and he kept not noticing Umm Salama, and I kept gesturing to him until he noticed. Umm Salama said: 'Is it like this now? Was there ever one of us with you except as you see?' - and she reviled Aisha, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, kept forbidding her but she refused, so the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Revile her back,' so she reviled her until she overcame her. Then Umm Salama went to Ali and Fatima and said: 'Aisha reviled me and said such-and-such about you and such-and-such about you.' So Ali said to Fatima: 'Go to him and say: Aisha said such-and-such about us and such-and-such about us.' So she went to him and mentioned that to him, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to her: 'She is indeed the beloved of your father, by the Lord of the Ka'ba!' So she returned to Ali and told him what he had said to her. He said: 'Was it not enough for you that Aisha said such-and-such about us and such-and-such about us, until you went to him and he said to you: She is the beloved of your father, by the Lord of the Ka'ba!' Azhar told us: Ibn Awn informed us: Ali ibn Zayd told me, from Umm Muhammad, his father's wife, who said: she used to visit Aisha frequently - she said: Zaynab bint Jahsh was with us - and he mentioned something similar to the hadith of Sulaym ibn Akhdar, except that Sulaym said 'Umm Salama.'
