حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ جُدْعَانَ كَانَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَقْرِي الضَّيْفَ وَيَفُكُّ الْعَانِيَ وَيَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ وَيُحْسِنُ الْجِوَارَ فَأَثْنَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَهَلْ يَنْفَعُهُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَقُلْ يَوْمًا قَطُّ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ وَقَالَ عَفَّانُ مَرَّةً فَأَثْنَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ.

Affan told us, he said: Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad told us, he said: Sulayman al-A'mash told us, from Abu Sufyan, from Ubayd ibn Umayr, from Aisha, who said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abdullah ibn Jud'an used, in the Time of Ignorance, to feed guests, free the captive, uphold ties of kinship, and treat his neighbors well. So I praised him for that - will that benefit him?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No. He never once said, 'O Allah, forgive me on the Day of Judgment.'" And Affan said on one occasion: "So I praised him."
