حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَيَّارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ بِنْتَ طَلْحَةَ تَذْكُرُ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ جَالِسًا كَاشِفًا عَنْ فَخِذِهِ فَاسْتَأْذَنَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى حَالِهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَأْذَنَ عُمَرُ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى حَالِهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَأْذَنَ عُثْمَانُ فَأَرْخَى عَلَيْهِ ثِيَابَهُ فَلَمَّا قَامُوا قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَيْكَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ فَأَذِنْتَ لَهُمَا وَأَنْتَ عَلَى حَالِكَ فَلَمَّا اسْتَأْذَنَ عُثْمَانُ أَرْخَيْتَ عَلَيْكَ ثِيَابَكَ فَقَالَ يَا عَائِشَةُ أَلَا أَسْتَحْيِي مِنْ رَجُلٍ وَاللَّهِ إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْتَحْيِي مِنْهُ.

Aisha narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was sitting with his thigh uncovered when Abu Bakr sought permission and was admitted while he remained in that state. Then Umar sought permission and was admitted while he remained in that state. Then Uthman sought permission, and he let his clothes down. When they left, she asked: "Abu Bakr and Umar entered and you did not change your state, but when Uthman entered, you covered yourself." He said: "O Aisha, should I not be shy before a man whom, by Allah, even the angels are shy before?"
