حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَتْ مَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَزِيدُ فِي رَمَضَانَ وَلَا غَيْرِهِ عَلَى إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُصَلِّي أَرْبَعًا فَلَا تَسْأَلْ عَنْ حُسْنِهِنَّ وَطُولِهِنَّ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي أَرْبَعًا فَلَا تَسْأَلْ عَنْ حُسْنِهِنَّ وَطُولِهِنَّ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي ثَلَاثًا قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تَنَامُ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُوتِرَ قَالَ يَا عَائِشَةُ إِنَّهُ أَوْ إِنِّي تَنَامُ عَيْنَايَ وَلَا يَنَامُ قَلْبِي.

Abd al-Rahman told us: Malik told us, from Sa'id b. Abi Sa'id, from Abu Salamah, who said: I asked Aishah about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in Ramadan. She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never exceeded eleven rak'ahs in Ramadan or in any other month: he would pray four — do not ask about their excellence and length — then he would pray four — do not ask about their excellence and length — then he would pray three. She said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, do you sleep before praying Witr?" He said, "O Aishah, indeed my eyes sleep, but my heart does not sleep."
