حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَيْقِيبٌ قَالَ قِيلَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَسْحُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَعْنِي الْحَصَى فَقَالَ إِنْ كُنْتَ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلًا فَوَاحِدَةً.

It was narrated from Mu'ayqib: It was mentioned to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that people were smoothing [the pebbles] in the mosque, and he said, "If you must do it, then only once."
