حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْنَاهُ مِنَ الْأَعْمَشِ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَسَارٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَوْلَا أَشُقُّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ مَعَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ.

Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, who said: We heard it from al-A'mash, Abdullah ibn Yasar narrated to me, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, from a man among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: Were it not that I would burden my nation, I would have commanded them to use the tooth-stick with every prayer.
