It was narrated to us by Muhammad ibn Ja'far, who said: It was narrated to us by Shu'bah, from Abu al-Tayyah, who said: I heard Sakhr narrate from Subay', who said: They sent me from a water-source to Kufa to buy riding animals. We came to al-Kunasah, and there was a man around whom a crowd had gathered. He said: As for my companion, he went off to the animals, but as for me, I went to him, and it was Hudhayfah. I heard him say: 'The Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to ask him about good, while I used to ask him about evil.' So I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, will there be evil after this good, just as there was evil before it?' He said: 'Yes.' I said: 'Then what is the protection from it?' He said: 'The sword' — Abu al-Tayyah, I think, said 'the sword.' I said: 'Then what?' He said: 'Then there will be a truce built upon rancour.' I said: 'Then what?' He said: 'Then there will arise callers to misguidance.' He said: 'If on that day you see the caliph of Allah on earth, adhere to him even if he wears down your body and takes your wealth; and if you do not see him, then flee in the land, even if you must die while biting onto the root of a tree.' I said: 'Then what?' He said: 'Then the Dajjal (Antichrist) will emerge.' I said: 'What will he bring with him?' He said: 'A river — or he said: water and fire. Whoever enters his river, his reward will be nullified and his sin will be confirmed upon him; and whoever enters his fire, his reward will be confirmed for him and his sin will be nullified.' I said: 'Then what?' He said: 'If you were to breed a foal, you would not ride its young until the Hour comes.' Shu'bah said: Abu Bishr narrated to me, with a chain of his own, from Hudhayfah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is a truce built upon rancour?' He said: 'Hearts that do not return to what they were.' It was narrated to us by Abdus-Samad, who said: It was narrated to me by my father, who said: It was narrated to me by Abu al-Tayyah, who said: It was narrated to me by Sakhr ibn Badr al-'Ijli, from Subay' ibn Khalid al-Dhuba'i, and he mentioned something similar in meaning, and said: 'and his reward will be nullified and his sin will be nullified' — he said: 'even if he wears down your back and takes your wealth.' It was narrated to us by Yunus, who said: It was narrated to us by Hammad, from Abu al-Tayyah, from Sakhr, from Subay' ibn Khalid al-Dhuba'i, and he mentioned it, saying: 'even if he wears down your back and consumes your wealth,' and he said: 'and his reward will be nullified and his sin will be nullified.'
