Muhammad ibn Abi Adiyy narrated to us, from Ibn Awn, from Mujahid, from Ibn Abi Layla, who said: Ibn Awn narrated to us, from Mujahid, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, who said: I went out with Hudhayfah to some part of this Sawad, and he asked for water. A local chief brought him a vessel of silver, so he threw it in his face. He said: We said, "Be quiet, be quiet, for if we ask him he will not tell us." He said: So we kept quiet. He said: Then afterward he said, "Do you know why I threw it in his face?" He said: We said, "No." He said, "I had forbidden him." He said: Then he mentioned the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying, "Do not drink from vessels of gold." Mu'adh said: "Do not drink from gold nor from silver, and do not wear silk nor brocade, for these are for them in this world, and for you in the Hereafter."
