حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ خُثَيْمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ اسْمُهُ سَلَمَةُ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ كُنَّا إِذَا حَضَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى طَعَامٍ لَمْ نَضَعْ أَيْدِيَنَا حَتَّى يَبْدَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيَضَعَ يَدَهُ وَإِنَّا حَضَرْنَا مَعَهُ طَعَامًا فَجَاءَتْ جَارِيَةٌ كَأَنَّمَا تُدْفَعُ فَذَهَبَتْ تَضَعُ يَدَهَا فِي الطَّعَامِ فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِهَا وَجَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ كَأَنَّمَا يُدْفَعُ فَذَهَبَ يَضَعُ يَدَهُ فِي الطَّعَامِ فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَسْتَحِلُّ الطَّعَامَ إِذَا لَمْ يُذْكَرْ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّهُ جَاءَ بِهَذِهِ الْجَارِيَةِ لِيَسْتَحِلَّ بِهَا فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهَا وَجَاءَ بِهَذَا الْأَعْرَابِيِّ لِيَسْتَحِلَّ بِهِ فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنَّ يَدَهُ فِي يَدِي مَعَ يَدِهِمَا يَعْنِي الشَّيْطَانَ.

Abu Mu'awiyah told us, al-A'mash told us, from Khuthaymah, from Abu Hudhayfah - Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said his name was Salamah b. al-Haytham b. Suhayb, one of the companions of Ibn Mas'ud - from Hudhayfah, he said: "When we were present with the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) at a meal, we would not put our hands in until the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) began and put his hand in. Once we were present with him at a meal, and a young slave-girl came as if she were being pushed, and went to put her hand in the food, so the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of her hand. Then a bedouin came as if he were being pushed, and went to put his hand in the food, so the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of his hand, and said: 'Satan considers food lawful for himself when God's name is not mentioned over it, and he brought this girl to make it lawful through her, so I took hold of her hand, and he brought this bedouin to make it lawful through him, so I took hold of his hand. By the One in whose hand is my soul, his hand is in my hand along with both their hands' - meaning Satan."
