حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَمُؤَمَّلٌ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ مَرْثَدٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ أَعْرَابِيًّا قَالَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ مَنْ دَعَا لِلْجَمَلِ الْأَحْمَرِ بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا وَجَدْتَهُ لَا وَجَدْتَهُ لَا وَجَدْتَهُ إِنَّمَا بُنِيَتْ هَذِهِ الْبُيُوتُ قَالَ مُؤَمَّلٌ هَذِهِ الْمَسَاجِدُ لِمَا بُنِيَتْ لَهُ.

Abdullah ibn al-Walid and Mu'ammal told us, both saying: Sufyan told us: Alqamah ibn Marthad told us, from Sulayman ibn Buraydah, from his father: that a Bedouin said in the mosque: Who has called out for the red camel, after the dawn prayer? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: May you not find it, may you not find it, may you not find it! These houses were built only - Mu'ammal said: these mosques were built - for the purpose for which they were built.
