حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ وَقَدْ كَانَ يُدْعَى ابْنَ هُرْمُزَ قَالَ جَمَعَ الْمَنْزِلُ بَيْنَ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ وَبَيْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ إِمَّا فِي كَنِيسَةٍ وَإِمَّا فِي بِيعَةٍ فَقَامَ عُبَادَةُ فَقَالَ نَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ الذَّهَبِ بِالذَّهَبِ وَالْوَرِقِ بِالْوَرِقِ وَالتَّمْرِ بِالتَّمْرِ وَالْبُرِّ بِالْبُرِّ وَالشَّعِيرِ بِالشَّعِيرِ وَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا وَالْمِلْحِ بِالْمِلْحِ وَلَمْ يَقُلْهُ الْآخَرُ وَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا مَنْ زَادَ أَوْ ازْدَادَ فَقَدْ أَرْبَى وَلَمْ يَقُلْهُ الْآخَرُ وَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَبِيعَ الذَّهَبَ بِالْفِضَّةِ وَالْفِضَّةَ بِالذَّهَبِ وَالْبُرَّ بِالشَّعِيرِ وَالشَّعِيرَ بِالْبُرِّ يَدًا بِيَدٍ كَيْفَ شِئْنَا.

Isma'il told us, Salamah ibn Alqamah told us, from Ibn Sirin — Muslim ibn Yasar and Abdullah ibn Ubayd, who used to be called Ibn Hurmuz, told us — he said: The lodging brought together Ubadah ibn al-Samit and Mu'awiyah, either in a church or in a synagogue. Ubadah stood up and said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade us from exchanging gold for gold, and silver for silver, and dates for dates, and wheat for wheat, and barley for barley" — one of them said "and salt for salt" and the other did not say it — and one of them said "whoever increases or asks for an increase has engaged in usury" and the other did not say it — "and he commanded us to sell gold for silver and silver for gold, and wheat for barley and barley for wheat, hand to hand, however we wished."
