حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ يَحْيَى عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ سَمِعَهُ مِنْ جَدِّهِ وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً عَنْ جَدِّهِ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ وَعُبَادَةُ نَقِيبٌ وَهُوَ مِنْ السَّبْعَةِ بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فِي الْعُسْرِ وَالْيُسْرِ وَالْمَنْشَطِ وَالْمَكْرَهِ وَلَا نُنَازِعُ الْأَمْرَ أَهْلَهُ نَقُولُ بِالْحَقِّ حَيْثُمَا كُنَّا لَا نَخَافُ فِي اللَّهِ لَوْمَةَ لَائِمٍ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ زَادَ بَعْضُ النَّاسِ مَا لَمْ تَرَوْا كُفْرًا بَوَاحًا.

Sufyan told us, from Yahya, from Ubadah ibn al-Walid ibn Ubadah ibn al-Samit, who heard it from his grandfather - Sufyan once said "from his grandfather Ubadah." Sufyan said: Ubadah was a chieftain, one of the seven. He said: We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to hear and obey in hardship and ease, in willingness and reluctance, and not to dispute authority with those entitled to it, to speak the truth wherever we were, not fearing for the sake of Allah the blame of any blamer. Sufyan said: Some people added, "unless you see manifest disbelief."
