Yahya ibn Ishaq narrated to us: Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us: Ibn Lahi'a informed us, from Khalid ibn Abi Imran, from someone who narrated to him, from Abu Umama al-Bahili, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Four — their rewards continue flowing to them after death: a man who died standing guard on the frontier in the way of Allah; a man who taught knowledge, so his reward continues for him as long as it is acted upon; a man who set up an ongoing charity, so its reward continues for him as long as it flows; and a man who left behind a righteous child who prays for him." Hasan narrated to us: Ibn Lahi'a narrated to us, from Khalid ibn Abi Imran, from Abu Umama, from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he mentioned it, except that he said, "and whoever taught knowledge, its reward continues for him just as for the one he taught."
