Abd al-Razzaq told us, Ma'mar informed us, he said: I heard Abu Ghalib say: When the heads of the Azariqah were brought and set up on the steps of Damascus, Abu Umamah came, and when he saw them his eyes wept, and he said: "Dogs of the Fire," three times, "these are the worst of the slain killed beneath the canopy of heaven, and the best of the slain killed beneath the canopy of heaven are those whom these killed." He said: I said, "What is the matter, your eyes weep?" He said: "Mercy for them, for they were of the people of Islam." He said: We said, "Is it your own opinion that you said these are dogs of the Fire, or something you heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?" He said: "Am I so bold as to say such a thing on my own? Rather I heard it from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, not once, nor twice, nor three times." He said: Then he counted several times.
