حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ الْحَدَّادُ حَدَّثَنَا شِهَابُ بْنُ خِرَاشٍ عَنْ حَجَّاجِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا ضَلَّ قَوْمٌ بَعْدَ هُدًى كَانُوا عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا أُوتُوا الْجَدَلَ ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ { مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلًا بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ خَصِمُونَ }.

Abd al-Wahid al-Haddad told us: Shihab ibn Khirash told us, from Hajjaj ibn Dinar, from Abu Ghalib, from Abu Umamah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: No people went astray after guidance they had been upon except that they were given to disputation. Then he recited this verse: They cite him to you only in dispute; rather, they are a contentious people.
