I said, "Here I am at your service, O Messenger of Allah, and at your pleasure." He said: Then he traveled on for a while, then said, "O Mu'adh ibn Jabal." I said, "Here I am at your service, O Messenger of Allah, and at your pleasure." He said, "Do you know what is the right of Allah upon His servants?" I said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "The right of Allah upon His servants is that they worship Him and not associate anything with Him." He said: Then he traveled on for a while, then said, "O Mu'adh ibn Jabal." I said, "Here I am at your service, O Messenger of Allah, and at your pleasure." He said, "Do you know what is the right of the servants upon Allah if they do that?" I said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "The right of the servants upon Allah is that He not punish them." Abdullah told us, my father told me, Hudbah ibn Khalid told us, Hammam told us, Qatadah told us, from Anas, from Mu'adh, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, similarly or the like of it. Abdullah told us, my father told me, Bahz told us, Hammam told us, from Qatadah, from Mu'adh, who said: I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with nothing between him and me except the back of the saddle — and he mentioned something similar.
